Cypress

Cypress (Cupressus sepmervirens L.) is a very elegant, tall tree with a conical crown and small round cones. It is an evergreen tree from the cypress family (Cupressaceae) that can grow up to 35 m in height.

The leaves have resin glands, and are characterized by their dark green color and thin structure. They bloom from March to May, and their natural habitat is the eastern Mediterranean. Oleoresin and wood were used as incense in many rituals of ancient times, in phytotherapy for menstrual problems, diarrhea and respiratory problems. The symbolism of this tree is very spiritual and in mythology, its ability to symbolically connect life from birth to death is emphasized.

Today, essential oil is most often used in cosmetics. It contains mainly monoterpenes (alpha pinene, delta-3-carene), sesquiterpene cedrol, and some diterpenes and diterpenic acids. Known as a lymphotonic and venotonic, it has modest antibacterial activity, and is active against the genus Mycobacterium. It is indicated for varicose veins, edema, hemorrhoids, lung tuberculosis, adenoma and prostate inflammation.
