Immortelle

Immortelle (Helichrysum italicum (Roth) G. Don), is a Mediterranean plant that grows on sunny rocky areas, up to 60 cm tall, with narrow leaves and yellow flowers, traditionally used to treat asthma, migraine, liver problems and skin diseases.

Smilje is a perennial herbaceous plant with a grayish color due to the abundance of woolly hairs. The stem is upright, unbranched, overgrown with oblong leaves, and bears several yellow cap-like flowers on top. They bloom in June and July and the medicinal part of the plant is the flower. Its natural habitat is southern Europe and the Mediterranean, and it grows on sand, along the seashore, in rocky areas and rock crevices with plenty of sunlight. However, it is extremely resistant to cold, including sub-zero temperatures.

Smilje must be distilled within 24 hours after picking, and for therapeutic use, varieties rich in italodiones (about 30%), non-terpene diketones, the most effective known compounds that help absorb hematomas, and also have an extremely effective effect on tissue regeneration, are considered the most desirable.

In addition to italodione, immortelle essential oil contains monoterpene alcohols, monoterpenes and esters. Thanks to its composition, in addition to its antihematomatic and regenerative effects, immortelle is also mucolytic, antispasmodic, has a strong anti-inflammatory and antioxidant, anticoagulant effect, stimulates the work of hepatocytes, reduces cholesterol levels, and exhibits an analgesic effect.
